Yearbook publishing company Balfour has named the Prowler, West Johnston High School’s yearbook, as a national sample.

This year’s editors are Madison Covey, Kendall Holland and Suki Pannu.

The “national sample” honor goes to just 2 percent of yearbooks nationwide.

Sample yearbooks are used as journalism resources in workshops across the country and by Balfour yearbook representatives in their selling efforts.

Kendall, the Prowler’s photo editor, said the staff works extremely hard to make every page special.

She’s super-picky, she said, about every photograph that goes into the book.

“It’s a lot of extra pressure to make things perfect,” Kendall said.

For the past two years, the Prowler has received the Honor Distinction from the N.C. Scholastic Media Association.

Last summer, the staff decided to take the yearbook a step further, and the effort paid off.

“This is the best book West Johnston has ever produced,” said adviser Jeanette Neyman. “Though I must admit I was pleasantly surprised when we found out about being chosen as a national sample.”

Neyman said the yearbook is entirely student produced.
