9 area students receive NCSU Park Scholarships

N.C. State University’s Park Scholarships program named nine area students to its class of 2019.

The 20th class of Park Scholars includes 39 students selected from a record number of nearly 1,800 applicants. Park Scholarships include opportunities for undergraduate research grants and study abroad.

The Park Scholarships are named for the late Roy H. Park, an N.C. State alumnus who created the charitable Park Foundation, which is dedicated to education, media and the environment.

Area scholarship recipients include

▪ Bailey Alexander Blankenship of Durham attends the N.C. School of Science and Mathematics where he is a captain of FIRST Robotics Team 900 and the web applications designer for student government. Bailey is the son of Tanya and Ben Blankenship.

▪ Jennifer Man Ngai Choy of Raleigh attends Broughton High where she is president of the Spanish Honor Society and Science Olympiad and vice president of the Math Club. She is the daughter of Kong and Sui Choy.

▪ Jeffrey Perry Currin of Nashville is a student at Nash Central High where he is the assistant drum major of the marching band, a member of the swim team and a National Honor Society inductee. He is the son of Dennis and Shellie Currin.

▪ Keilah Shantel Davis of Durham attends N. C. School of Science and Mathematics where she is a physics teaching assistant, co-president of Heritage, Opportunity, Progress, and Education (HOPE) and secretary of NIA, a women’s empowerment group. She is the daughter of Herbert and Psiyina Davis.

▪ Pratyush Pavan Devarasetty of Cary is a student at Enloe High where he is president of Odyssey of the Mind and treasurer of the Technology Student Association. He is the son of Prasada Rao and Preeti Bala Devarasetty.

▪ Pranav Kemburu of Cary attends N.C. School of Science and Mathematics where he is a captain of NASA HUNCH, director of Science Days and president of the Eating Local Foods Club. He is the son of Anuradha and Srinivasa Kemburu.

▪ Jacob Ryan Kintz of Apex is a student at Middle Creek High where he is president of the Science Honors Society, a tutor and member of the Spanish Honors Society, and a lettered member of the varsity lacrosse team. He is the son of Andy and Mary Kintz.

▪ Parker Eugene Lee of Fuquay-Varina attends Fuquay-Varina High where he is president of the Debate Club, captain of the track and field team, treasurer of Key Club, and had a soloist part in the Chamber Choir. He is the son of Robert and Jeannie Lee.

▪ Rosalynn Felice Phan of Wake Forest attends Heritage High where she is president of Science Olympiad, National Achievers Society, National Technical Honor Society, and a flute player in the marching band. She is the daughter of Than Phan and Xuan Nguyen.
