Imani Jones, a senior at Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines, was recognized by the National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere as its January “SAVE Shining Star” for her impacting efforts in making the local community safer. This outstanding national recognition, which is awarded to only one student nationwide each month, honors Imani for her dedication to engaging, empowering and educating peers in effective violence prevention practices.
Imani leads monthly conversations at the Southern Pines Police Department on new techniques and resources for teens to promote nonviolence within their community.
She shares clear, concise and attainable ideas with a task force made up of assistant district attorneys, police detectives, the sheriff’s department and other notable community members in order to make a real difference in promoting overall safety. She has assisted with the writing several successful grant proposals and will be presenting at the National SAVE Summit in March.
