Seven students represented Raleigh Charter High School at the 77th session of Tar Heel Boys State, held at Catawba College, June 19-25. The boys and their roles are Jake Satisky, Secretary of Commerce; Benjamin Stroud, Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources; Robert Metzger, Secretary of Corrections; Langdon Ogburn, Governor; Chris DiSerafino, State Senator; John Schuster, City Alderman; and Kevyn Smith, State Senator.
Langdon Ogburn will attend the American Legion’s Boys Nation, July 22-29, in Washington, D.C. as one of two delegates from North Carolina. There, he will serve as a senator representing North Carolina, participating in committees, conducting hearings and voting on bills.
Sponsored by the American Legion, this week-long leadership and government program aims to preserve the ideals of democracy and civic engagement by simulating political parties, elections, and public service as students hold caucuses, attend conventions, run election campaigns and vote on legislation. The program is open to all rising North Carolina 12th grade males.
