The Wake County school board announced Tuesday the hiring of a new assistant superintendent, two new principals and two interim principals.
Meg Sheehan was named to the newly created position of assistant superintendent for elementary support, where will she will oversee 12 high-needs elementary schools that will get additional help from the district. She will receive a salary of $124,185.
Since 2011, Sheehan has helped train aspiring principals as a leadership coach at the Piedmont Triad Leadership Academy at UNC-Greensboro’s School of Education. Before then, she was assistant superintendent for instructional services in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system.
Elaine Hofmann will become principal of Salem Middle School in Apex on March 2 with a salary of $96,844. Hofmann has been an assistant principal at Cary High School since 2007.
Barry Richburg will become principal of Yates Mill Elementary School in Raleigh on March 2 with a salary of $74,624. He has been principal of Conn Elementary School in Raleigh since 2012.
Bob Umstead will be interim principal of Apex Elementary School from March 2 to April 30. Currently the interim principal of Yates Mill Elementary, Umstead was principal of Swift Creek Elementary School until he retired in 2013.
Roy Teel’s contract as interim principal of Timber Drive Elementary School in Garner was extended to Feb 27.
