WAKE Up and Read holding book drive events Monday

WAKE Up and Read has extended its deadline for its book drive and will hold special events on Monday at four Barnes & Nobles locations as part of national Read Across America day.

WAKE Up and Read’s goal has been to collect 100,000 new and gently used children’s books by March 2 that will be given to students at nine high-poverty Wake County elementary schools and to community centers and child-care facilities that serve the same areas as those schools. Due to the recent wintry weather, the book drive has been extended to mid-March.

But Monday’s Read Across America events, held on the birthday of Dr. Seuss, are still expected to result in many books being collected. The four Barnes & Noble stores will hold family-themed events and activities from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
