A first-grade teacher’s Star Wars themed selfie won the grand prize in this week’s Wake County school system teacher selfie contest.

Crystin Irwin, a first-grade teacher at Herbert Akins Elementary School in Fuquay-Varina, donned a Darth Vader mask in her selfie as her class stood behind her wearing stormtrooper masks. The tweet included the words “Love my little Stormtroopers.”

Irwin’s ingenuity won her a $50 gift certificate to the Angus Barn that was announced Friday by Team WCPSS, the district’s employee Twitter account.

Four other teachers won prizes announced on Friday such as Carolina Hurricanes tickets, Carolina Mudcats tickets and Massage Envy gift cards for their selfies.

The school system held the teacher selfie contest to mark this week’s national Teacher Appreciation week. Many other tweets were submitted during the week, including some that won daily prizes.
