Wake County Superintendent Jim Merrill was among several people and PTA groups from the Wake County school system to receive awards last week from the North Carolina PTA Council.
Merrill was named the NCPTA 2014-15 Administrator of the Year. Organizers say the purpose of this award is to recognize and pay tribute to a school system administrator “who has made outstanding contributions in the field of education that benefit all school families and the community.”
The student services team at Centennial Campus Middle School in Raleigh received the Heroes and Helpers Award for helping their PTA “strengthen family/school partnerships that benefit students’ success and well-being.”
Ruby Acorn awards for having all the school’s full-time teachers enrolled as PTA members were given to the PTAs at Brier Creek, Northwoods, Olive Chapel, Washington and Zebulon elementary schools and the Wake Young Men’s Leadership Academy.
