Volunteers needed to read teacher grants, hand out books

WakeEd, formerly the Wake Education Partnership, is looking for volunteers to read teacher grant applications and to help distribute books to students at high-needs Wake County schools.

WakeEd will train volunteers to read applications that Wake County teachers submitted for the group’s Teacher Innovation Grants. Teachers were able to request individual grants of up to $1,000 and team grants of up to $3,000.

WakeEd says volunteers can complete the reading of applications at their convenience and in their spare time.

The other big volunteer opportunity is for people to help set up the WAKE Up and Read book fair and distributions. WAKE Up and Read collected more than 114,000 children’s books to give to students at nine high-needs elementary schools.
