The Wake County school board’s facilities committee could agree Wednesday on the names of five new schools.
School administrators will present to the committee different options for naming four new elementary schools and a new middle school. As was shown with the controversy of the naming of the new West Apex High School and its renaming to Apex Friendship High, school naming can be controversial.
The new middle school up for naming, M-11, is on 7901 Humie Olive Road near Apex Friendship High. The choices are Apex Friendship Middle, Beaver Creek Middle and Humie Olive Road Middle.
E-28, on 6120 Poole Road in Raleigh, could be called Poole Road Elementary, Briarhopper Elementary or Riverview Elementary.

E-33, on 2374 Yates Store Road in Cary, could be named Hortons Creek Elementary, Amberly Elementary or O’Kelly Chapel Elementary.
E-38, on 5751 Comstock Road in Cary, could be called Pleasant Grove Elementary, Comstock Elementary or Brier Ridge Elementary. This is the school where part of Brier Creek Elementary School’s attendance area will be reassigned.
E-40, on 201 E. Rogers Lane in Raleigh, could be named Anderson Point Elementary, Crabtree Creek Elementary or North Rogers Lane Elementary.
The committee could opt to make recommendations for each school or punt them to the full board for approval.
The committee will also review the schematic designs for the construction of M-11 and the renovation of Lincoln Heights Elementary School in Fuquay-Varina.
