The Wake County school board appointed an area superintendent and three principals on Tuesday.
▪ James Overman will be the new area superintendent for elementary support, overseeing 12 high-needs elementary schools that are getting extra support from the district. Overman replaces Meg Sheehan, who was recently hired to be Guilford County Schools’ western region superintendent.
Overman, who has been senior director for elementary education since 2010, will be paid $121,440 in his new position.
▪ Katherine White will become principal of Hilburn Drive Academy in North Raleigh, Wake’s only K-8 school. White, who has been an assistant principal at Broughton High School in Raleigh since 2012, will be paid $72,096.
▪ Nanette Lavery will become principal of North Forest Pines Elementary School in North Raleigh. Lavery, who has been principal of Olive Chapel Elementary School in Apex since 2011, will be paid $108,371.
▪ Ruth Steidinger will replace Lavery as principal of Olive Chapel. Steidinger, a former elementary school principal and Wake’s senior director for academic programming and support since 2013, will be paid $102,158.
