Wake County school board to spotlight 47 students

The Wake County school board will recognize 47 students as Spotlight on Students recipients on Tuesday.

By the end of the school year, one student at every Wake school will be recognized for his or her outstanding achievements and accomplishments. In recent years, the school board has held the Spotlight on Students ceremonies at special recognition meetings.

A group of 25 students will be honored at 5:30 p.m. in the school board meeting room at 5625 Dillard Drive in Cary. Those students are:

▪ Addison Thrash, a 5th-grade student at Abbotts Creek Elementary in Raleigh;

▪ Christopher Avendano-Zelaya, a 5th-grade student at Brassfield Elementary in Raleigh;

▪ Brady Blalock, a 5th-grade student at Cary Elementary;

▪ Natalia Gonzalez, a 5th-grade student at Douglas Elementary in Raleigh;

▪ Juan Castaneda-Ponce, a 5th-grade student at Forestville Elementary in Knightdale;

▪ Sydney Young, a 5th-grade student at Fuquay-Varina Elementary;

▪ Aidan Leak, a 5th-grade student at Highcroft Elementary in Cary;

▪ Tyler Stevenson, a 5th-grade student at Holly Ridge Elementary in Holly Springs;

▪ Shelby Yun, a 5th-grade student at Hunter Elementary in Raleigh;

▪ Awais Zahid, a 5th-grade student at Jones Dairy Elementary in Wake Forest;

▪ Juan Samuel Santibanez-Garcia, a 5th-grade student at Lake Myra Elementary in Wendell;

▪ Tomera Miller, a 5th-grade student at Powell Elementary in Raleigh;

▪ Mia Liriano, a 5th-grade student at River Bend Elementary in Raleigh;

▪ Collin Daneau, a 4th-grade student at Sanford Creek Elementary in Rolesville;

▪ Giovanni Hernandez-Hernandez, a 5th-grade student at Smith Elementary in Garner;

A second ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. to honor 22 more students. Those students are:

▪ Mikhal Shai Blystone, a 5th-grade student at Willow Springs Elementary;
