We have a new design at newsobserver.com, and we hope you’ll find it simpler, more engaging and more accessible wherever you are.
Technology and the devices you use to get the news are changing quickly, and we’re keeping pace. Our new presentation is cleaner, and the photos and headlines are bolder. Our photo galleries and videos are easier to find.
Updated technology makes our site more nimble, allowing us to present the news faster than before.
And our site is responsive, meaning it automatically adjusts to look great on every device you use – phone, tablet, laptop or desktop.

We’ve also added new features, including comics, games and puzzles.
Our navigation is easier to use. On your desktop or laptop, you can still find what you’re looking for by using the red section bar at the top of each page. Click on a section to open a menu of topics, blogs and columns, plus a featured story and the latest headlines from that section.
Clicking on Home in that main menu gives you the option to see the latest weather; our collection of news databases; our special projects and investigative work; our social media pages, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google+; many subscriber services; and our popular E-Edition — a daily digital replica of the timeless printed N&O.
On a phone or tablet, you can get the menu by tapping the three-bar icon at the top left of your screen.
We have also improved the weather report on our tablet and phone apps. Swipe left from the home screen to see it, or tap the link in the menu. If you’re seeing us in a browser, click the temperature at the top of the home page for a quick five-day forecast, and click “More Weather” from there to get a video forecast, radar and more details.
Our enhanced Nation/World report under News displays the latest from all 30 McClatchy news sites, including our Washington and foreign bureaus, and from wire services including The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Associated Press.
And yes, we’ve added those comics, games and puzzles. You’ll find them in the Living menu.
You will notice that we have changed the name at the top of our pages. We want you to know that we are The News & Observer, no matter where or how you read us, and we’re all proud to continue The N&O’s long tradition of public service.
We want to hear your opinions — not only about our work, but about the issues and the communities we share.
You can submit a letter to the editor in the Opinion menu. On our Customer Service page, linked at the top of each page, you can send us news tips and report problems with your subscription. You can also send us general feedback there, by clicking on the “Contact Us” link on the right. And in the Home menu, you can click on any of our social media and talk to us.
You can learn more by reading the accompanying FAQ. Explore the site and let us know what you think. We look forward to hearing from you.
