Camp Lejeune Marine dies in Iraq

A Marine with ties to North Carolina died Sunday while overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Department of Defense officials announced today.

Lance Cpl. Bobby L. Twitty, 20, of Bedias, Texas, died July 22 during a non-hostile vehicle accident in Iraq's Anbar province. He was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 6, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune. His death is currently under investigation, officials said Tuesday evening.

Twitty joined the Marines in December 2005. After being trained as a heavy equipment operator, he joined his unit in June 2006.

He was promoted to the position of Lance Corporal this past February, and began his first overseas tour the same month.

Among his awards are the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
