California’s burning-house hero a hit on late-night TV

The Fresno man whose rescue of an elderly resident from a burning home was captured on video got the full hero’s treatment on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Thursday night.

“Do you have any experience as a rescue worker or anything?” Kimmel asked Artiaga. “Do you have a cape that you wear on the weekend?”

Kimmel gave Tom Artiaga, a big Los Angeles Dodgers fan, a personalized Dodgers jersey and tickets for his family to Disneyland and California Adventure. And then the topper -- former Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda came on stage and read a proclamation that, among other things, invited Artiaga to a Dodgers game next season, where he would throw out the first pitch.

That was more than enough to bring a tear to a hero’s eye.
