Mebane man charged with DWI in Chapel Hill hit and run

A Mebane man was charged with hit and run Thursday after he struck a bicyclist on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus, police said.

Ryan Dane Holden, 22, of 408 W. Lake Trail was charged with felony hit and run with injury, possession of marijuana, and driving while impaired after he struck a woman on a bicycle near the Carolina Inn, said Randy Young, a Department of Public Safety spokesman. Holden is not a student, Young said.

Holden was driving north on South Columbia Street when he ran a red light and hit Erika Leigh Littman, 18, of Asheboro, Young said. Littman was taken to UNC Hospitals with injuries that did not appear life-threatening, he said. The hospital did not have her condition Friday, which could mean she was treated and released, a spokeswoman said.

A campus police officer, Jeffrey Mosher, was about three cars back from the accident. He stopped Holden on Raleigh Street, saw an open can of beer in the car and did a field sobriety test on him, Young said.
