If you’re planning to leave the country if Donald Trump wins the presidential election, a Raleigh real-estate agent is eager to help you sell your house.
Will Wofford of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices recently sent out a mailer with an eye-catching message:
“If TRUMP is elected president, are you leaving the country?” he wrote on the mailer. “If you are, give me a call and let’s get your house SOLD!”
Wofford says he got the idea from hearing people say they’d have to move if Trump gets elected. He hoped the mailer – “really a joke” – would draw the attention of recipients who might otherwise throw a real-estate ad in the trash.
“It’s producing pretty good results,” he said. “I’ve had people put this on Facebook and email me.”
But with this year’s bitterly divided electorate, not everyone thought Wofford’s joke was funny. He said one person called to tell him it was the “absolute stupidest” mailing he’d received.
Unlike the political marketing firms littering mailboxes this election season, Wofford didn’t target recipients by political party registration. The thousand postcards he sent went to neighborhoods where he’s interested in selling homes – so both Democrats and Republicans got the ad.
