Here’s where the latest polls put the Democratic primary candidates in North Carolina

The latest polls in North Carolina show former Vice President Joe Biden overtaking Sen. Bernie Sanders in the state as North Carolina voters cast their ballots in the primary election.

A new poll released on Super Tuesday by the conservative Civitas Institute shows Biden with almost 45% of the vote, with Sanders at almost 18%. The Civitas poll talked to likely voters Sunday and Monday about who they planned to cast their ballot for.

Biden and Sanders have been in a virtual tie for about two weeks in North Carolina polls.

The Civitas poll has a margin of error of 4.2%.

Two other polls that questioned likely voters in the days just before the primary also put Biden ahead, but with less of a lead. Polling company Swayable did an independent poll of all 14 Super Tuesday states and found Biden had about 36% of the vote in North Carolina with Sanders at almost 23% and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg at about 18%.

The margin of error for Swayable’s North Carolina poll is 3%.

Swayable’s polls found Biden was doing well in southern states, leading the polls in Alabama, Arkansas, Virginia and Tennessee. He also leads on Oklahoma, the pollsters found.

A third poll from liberal group Data for Progress, which also looked at all Super Tuesday states, put Biden ahead in North Carolina with 36% of the vote and Sanders at 27%.

The Data for Progress poll also shows Biden leading in southern states after his win in South Carolina.

“The three days between South Carolina and Super Tuesday have been perhaps the most eventful of the race. Billionaire Tom Steyer, Former Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Senator Amy Klobuchar each dropped out of the race, with the latter two throwing their support behind Joe Biden,” the company said.

“These new polls show the state of the race before Super Tuesday. A tighter race with only two candidates poised for delegates nearly everywhere,” Data for Progress said with the poll results.

The Data for Process poll has a margin of error of 5.3%.

Civitas Institute President Donald Bryson said in a statement, “While it’s important to note that more than 516,000 Democratic primary ballots had been cast before the poll was fielded, it provides a unique opportunity to see political momentum unfold in real time.”

“Biden was already performing competitively, but a strong debate performance combined with a definitive win in South Carolina has given him the key to a potential victory in North Carolina,” he said.

“It’s clear that Joe Biden has momentum in the South and Mid-Atlantic. It will be interesting to observe the 14 Super Tuesday States, and American Samoa, likely serving as regional blocs – particularly as Bloomberg and Warren seem to fade,” Bryson said.
