Newly minted House Speaker Tim Moore has a long list of positions and committees to fill.
While Senate leader Phil Berger released his committee assignments earlier this week and still employs much of the same staff, Moore’s office said Friday that there’s no set date for announcing which legislators will serve on and chair committees.
Moore also has a lot of hiring to do. His only major announced appointment so far is Chief of Staff Clayton Somers, who until December chaired the N.C. Turnpike Authority.
Moore inherited former Speaker Thom Tillis’ executive assistant, William Morales. Manning the phones Friday morning, Morales said the remaining hires involve “a lot of moving parts,” and several policy advisors will likely be announced “by the middle of next week.”
Moore will also need a general counsel and a spokesperson. Tillis had about 15 people on his staff.
