North Carolina’s Democratic Attorney General Roy Cooper has sent out a fundraising missive following up on an article he wrote in the Huffington Post, that praised the leadership of former Gov. Terry Sanford but attacked the Republican leadership of the legislature.
“We want to make sure Roy’s message reaches as many people as possible,” said the fundraising email sent by Morgan Jackson, Cooper’s political consultant. “People need to know that someone is standing with them against the past 10 months of extremist policies hurting our state.”
That drew a rebuke from state Republican Party chairman Claude Pope, who suggested that Cooper was spending more time running for governor in 2016 than being attorney general.
“Last year, North Carolinians didn’t realize they were electing a part-time Attorney General,” Pope declared. “It’s time for Roy Cooper to stop his non-stop campaigning on the taxpayer dime and refocus his energy on the job he is being paid to do.”
