The funeral for state Sen. Martin Nesbitt is scheduled for Tuesday in the Asheville area he represented for more than three decades.
The 2 p.m. service will take place at Biltmore Baptist Church in Arden. The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the service. Groce Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. The internment is private.
Nesbitt, 67, died Thursday 10 days after being diagnosed with stomach cancer. He entered the N.C. House in 1979 to fill the term of his late mother, Mary Cordell Nesbitt. He served more than 11 terms in the House and more than five in the N.C. Senate.
He is survived by his wife, Deane; son Martin Nesbitt and his wife, Lisa, of Swannanoa and their daughter Taylor; stepson, Chad Nesbitt and his wife, Nancy, of Leicester and their daughter Savannah and his sister, Mary Ann Dotson-Silvey and her husband, Bill, of Lake Lure and her children, Mac, Tony, Kenneth and LeAnn Dotson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mountain Area health Education Center, 121 Hendersonville Road in Asheville, according to his obituary.
