Mike Huckabee will travel to Wilmington on Friday for two fundraisers and a press conference in support of Woody White’s congressional campaign.

The former Arkansas governor and former Republican presidential candidate has endorsed White in the Republican primary in the 7th Congressional District. White, a Wilmington attorney, faces former state Sen. David Rouzer of Johnston County and Fayetteville veteran Chris Andrade in the May 6 GOP primary.

Huckabee – who hosts his own political commentary show, “Huckabee,” on Fox News Channel – will hold a news conference Friday evening at Wilmington International Airport. Afterward, he will attend a $25 per person event at Brunswick Forest in Leland, followed by a $250 per couple reception at the Historic Cape Fear Club in downtown Wilmington. For $1,000, couples can get photos taken with Huckabee.

The White campaign hopes to raise $50,000 to $70,000 through the Huckabee events, said Robert Andrews, a spokesman for the campaign.

As of March 31, White had ground to make up in the money race, according to campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission. Rouzer had raised $732,000, with $419,000 in cash on hand. White had raised $359,000, with $158,000 remaining in cash. Andrade had only about $6,300 on hand.

The 7th Congressional District includes all or parts of 12 southeastern North Carolina counties, including Johnston.
