N.C. Sen. Joel Ford has taken a lot of heat this week for voting to exempt magistrates from wedding duties.
Ford, a Charlotte Democrat, was one of two senators who broke with their party to support Senate Bill 2. The Republican-sponsored legislation passed the Senate this week and benefits government employees who object to performing same-sex weddings.
Ford has been strongly criticized online. A Twitter user called him a traitor who should leave the Democratic Party. A Charlotte LGBT publication slammed him in an editorial, saying he put his personal religious views ahead of the law.
Ford’s response: Tweet out quotations. Lots of them.
