American Action Network is running a radio ad praising U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers of the 2nd Congressional District for her votes on the House budget and Medicare doctors’ fees.
The ad will run for a week. The American Action Network’s is spending $25,000 to air the ad, which is part of a $1.8 million nationwide buy the 501(c)(4) is making on behalf of 76 House members.
“Renee Ellmers is doing the right thing in Congress,” the announcer says.
The group, which supports center-right policies, does not have to reveal its donors.

The ad is airing just as the outgoing chairman of the Chatham County Republican Party, Jim Duncan, announced he would challenge Ellmers in a primary next year.
A spokeswoman for American Action Network said the ad has been in the works for a week, and the timing is not connected to Duncan’s announcement.
This is the second ad buy the group has made applauding Ellmers this year. An earlier television ad called her a “conservative champion.”
Ellmers, who is in her third term, got on the bad side of some conservatives in January over her attempts to derail a vote on an abortion bill.
