Gov. Pat McCrory advocated in Congress on Wednesday for including North Carolina in an Atlantic Ocean offshore energy program. It would allow for oil and gas leasing, and exploration and development, miles off the coast of the state.
In testimony, McCrory said he wants an “all-of-the-above” energy policy that includes offshore drilling.
“I deeply respect the views of those who disagree with the positions I advocate,” McCrory said, according to his prepared remarks. “We share a passion for our clean water, fishing industry and the recreational use of our coastal resources. We would not be advocating for offshore energy development if we felt we were compromising these invaluable treasures.”
He said there is “widespread” support across the state for “offshore leasing, exploration and development.”
