N.C. House Speaker Tim Moore said Tuesday that his chamber’s budget proposal will likely be completed the week of May 18, with votes on May 20-21.
“That’s our target, we know these things can change,” Moore told legislators.
Moore said he expects that the latest revenue projections will become available Wednesday, although he noted that the release has already been delayed several times.
“Obviously, we need to know how much money we have before we can spend it,” Moore said.

The speaker said House appropriations committee chairs are meeting privately “all day” this week to hash out the budget. Until the talks move to budget subcommittees – which meet in public – expect little news out of the House this week.
“While we do have some bills, we’re going to try to maintain relatively light committee calendars and session calendars” to make time for budget meetings, Moore said.
Once the House passes the budget, the Senate will get a crack at the proposal.
