One of the most frequently visited links on The News & Observer’s website, here in this government town, has always been the state employees’ salary database.
That popular pasttime was interrupted when some state employees suddenly discovered they no longer had access to it for a month.
Was it intentional?
No, according to the state Office of Information Technology.

“Our security software had inadvertently blocked the domain in response to a phishing attempt,” according to a statement from the office. “This issue has been addressed, and state employees' computers can access the database.”
The block was in effect from June 23 to July 24, according to the office.
