A Republican challenger to Congresswoman Renee Ellmers is drawing national attention for an ad that features gunfire and accusations of feminism.

Kay Daly is a former N.C. Republican Party spokeswoman and aide to five Republican members of Congress. She’s among several GOP candidates seeking to unseat Ellmers in the Second Congressional District primary next March.

Salon calls Daly’s 30-second TV commercial “the most bizarre GOP primary ad so far.” Huffington Post linked to it with the headline “Holy Smokes, This Is A Real Campaign Ad!”

Why the excitement? The narrator in the ad rattles off a litany of complaints about Ellmers.

“This feminist voted to cut veterans benefits and to gut the military budget,” he says. “She voted to let homosexuals pretend they’re married. She’s a RINO who voted for Obamacare and voted to raise the debt ceiling twice to pay for abortions in D.C. and to fund ‘Planned Butcherhood.’”

But it’s Daly’s appearance at the end of the ad that sets her campaign apart. The candidate shoots a gun and offers an invitation to viewers:

“I’m hunting RINOs (Republicans In Name Only). Care to join me?”
