Republican Causey again runs for insurance commissioner

The name Mike Causey may seem familiar to regular voters. He’s appeared on a lot of ballots, usually as a Republican candidate for insurance commissioner.

Causey announced recently he’ll take another run at the office - his fifth. He’ll likely face a primary. Heather Grant, a nurse practitioner from Wilkesboro who was a U.S. Senate primary candidate last year announced earlier that she’s running.

Incumbent Democrat Wayne Goodwin is seeking reelection to a third term. He defeated Causey in 2012.

Causey, adopt-a-highway coordinator at the state Department of Transportation, also ran three times against Goodwin’s predecessor, Democrat Jim Long.

Last year, Causey was in the crowded Republican primary in the 6th U.S. House district race to succeed former U.S. Rep. Howard Coble.
