Conservative group Americans For Prosperity sent out an event invitation Thursday that promised an appearance by “NC Speaker of the House Mike Hager.”
Hager, of course, isn’t the speaker. The Rutherfordton Republican serves as the House majority leader.
Was it a Freudian slip?
AFP was critical this year of the House budget proposal led by Speaker Tim Moore, and the group called the budget “fiscally irresponsible” with “carve-outs for special interests.” Meanwhile, AFP has backed Hager’s long-running effort to kill the state’s renewable energy requirements.

AFP State Director Donald Bryson said the mistake wasn’t made in his office. “National staff sent this release,” he wrote in an email. “We’re sending a correction in the next few minutes.”
