Republican Sue Googe, a Cary real estate company owner, wants to challenge incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep. David Price for election in the 4th Congressional district.
Googe plans to make a formal announcement Thursday at UNC-Chapel Hill. Googe, 43, said this is her first run for office.
“I want to bring a fresh new voice to the 4th district, and that’s why I’m kicking off this campaign with college students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she said in a statement.
Googe’s announcement said she was “born into extreme poverty in communist China,” and moved to the United States a 26.
“Career politicians like David Price are causing lasting damage which is threatening our nation’s prosperity,” she said.
Price, 75, has served 26 years in Congress. The 4th District is heavily Democratic. Price defeated GOP challenger Paul Wright in 2014 winning 75 percent of the vote to Wright’s 25 percent.
