Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio will be in Raleigh next month for a $1,000-per-person fundraiser.

John Kane, the developer behind North Hills and other major real-estate projects, is hosting the Rubio event at his home on Jan. 9.

In an invitation, Kane says he agreed to play host during a meeting last week with Rubio’s campaign manager, Terry Sullivan.

“Terry further confirmed Marco’s strength on both economic and foreign policy issues, as well as his ability to reach a broad audience – exactly what the Republican Party needs to beat Hillary!” Kane wrote in the invite. “Marco is the only candidate consistently beating Hillary in a head-to-head match-up, and we must back him with the financial resources he needs to get through the primary.”

Tickets for the fundraiser start at $1,000. Guests must raise a total of $10,000 to be a “chairman” or $2,700 to be a “host” and get their photo taken with Rubio.

Kane is the latest prominent Republican donor in North Carolina to back Rubio. Former state budget director and businessman Art Pope endorsed the Florida senator last week.
