Former Congresswoman Clayton on UNC-TV

A series of interviews with former U.S. Rep. Eva Clayton will air this month on UNC-TV as part of its Biographical Conversations series.

Clayton, a Democrat, was the first African-American elected to Congress from the state in the 20th century. She represented a northeastern North Carolina district for five terms. She left office in January 2003.

The series will air at 10 p.m. on three consecutive Thursdays, Jan. 7, 14, and 21. The interviews will cover Clayton’s Georgia childhood, her work in former Gov. Jim Hunt’s cabinet, her elections to Congress, and her work with the United Nations fighting world hunger.

Clayton is the 25th subject of the Biographical Conversations series.
