Taxpayers across the state were unable to reach anyone at the N.C. Department of Revenue for most of the day Friday because an early morning power interruption knocked communications offline.
Those who were scheduled to file or make payments due on Friday will be given until Jan. 20, the agency said.
Spokesman Trevor Johnson said the power outage happened before 8 a.m. and affected the main office in Raleigh as well as all the call centers around the state. Phone service as well as email and its website were knocked out, he said.
Repairs were made by late afternoon, but technicians were still bringing a number of applications back online and didn’t expect to have phone or email access restored before the end of the day.
