State Sen. Buck Newton, a Republican running for attorney general, is among the first candidates to start running TV commercials.
Newton’s campaign released two 15-second ads featuring supporters explaining why they “back Buck.” According to federal filings, the ads will air weekly on WRAL and other stations during the political talk show “N.C. Spin.” Filings don’t list how much Newton is paying for the air time.
The ad won’t be seen in primetime – at least not on the major stations in the Triangle. N.C. Spin airs on WRAL at 6:30 a.m. on Sundays, and a number of other stations around the state also show it early on Sunday mornings.
A few notable faces appear in the Newton ads, although they don’t identify themselves. Sen. Kathy Harrington, a Gastonia Republican, says she supports Newton because she “still believes in the Constitution.” Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell says “I devoted my life to public safety, that’s why I back Buck.”
