We’ve seen a bunch of North Carolina politicians making sports bets this football season as the Carolina Panthers moved through the NFL playoffs.
In most of the wagers, the politician whose state’s football team lost had to send some local food and drink items to North Carolina. Or wear a Panthers jersey. Or put Panthers gear on their pet.
N.C. Secretary of State Elaine Marshall is taking a different approach for her Super Bowl bet with Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams.
Both leaders will host donation drives at their offices for their local food banks, with Marshall picking the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. They’ll make the donations in honor of the winning Super Bowl team.

“No matter who wins the Super Bowl, we will be providing assistance to those in need in both states,” Marshall said in a news release Monday. “I am confident that those donations will be made in honor of the Super Bowl champion Carolina Panthers.”
