The N.C. Association of Educators has endorsed a number of Democrats running in down-ballot races ahead of the March 15 primary.
Most of the candidates endorsed are incumbent Council of State members or candidates with a long-shot opponent: Sen. Josh Stein for attorney general, June Atkinson for superintendent of public instruction, and Elaine Marshall for secretary of state.
But one endorsement could impact a close race: The group is backing Raleigh attorney and former Wake County Democratic Party chairman Dan Blue III for state treasurer.
Blue, whose father is state Sen. Dan Blue, faces Cary CPA Ron Elmer in the Democratic primary. Earlier this week, the political arm of the State Employees Association of North Carolina announced that it’s endorsing Elmer.

Here’s what NCAE said about Blue in a news release:
“Dan Blue III has a clear understanding of the impact a strong pension and health care system have on the ability to recruit and retain educators in North Carolina. His depth of experience in investment banking, as an attorney and as strong advocate for public education, will help protect North Carolina’s AAA credit rating and promote the financial well-being of North Carolina’s working families.”
