Bill Daughtridge, secretary of the state Department of Administration, is moving to the N.C. Industrial Commission, the governor’s office announced Friday.
He will be replaced on an interim basis by Kathryn Johnston, who is currently deputy secretary of service operations. Daughtridge will fill a vacancy on the Industrial Commission created by chairman Drew Heath’s appointment as the governor’s budget director.
Gov. Pat McCrory’s office said Daughtridge’s move is an emergency appointment and so takes effect immediately. It will require approval of the General Assembly when it goes into session later this year.
Daughtridge served in the state House for three terms before McCrory named him a member of his first Cabinet in 2013.
