Some of North Carolina’s writers say they have been following the state’s political narrative and don’t like the direction the story is going.
About 50 writers, including at least two of its most well-known — Jill McCorkle of Hillsborough and Bland Simpson of Chapel Hill — will gather on the south lawn of the State Capitol grounds at 2 p.m. Saturday to call for a rewrite.
They will read a short statement, according to Simpson and McCorkle.
It will say “those of us who are entrusted by both publishers and the people to tell the stories of our place and our time firmly believe that North Carolina needs — and deserves — a far, far better story for itself and its people than the one that has been coming out of Raleigh in recent years.”
