The governor on Wednesday announced he has appointed Kathryn Johnston as the new secretary for the Department of Administration.

She had been serving as acting secretary since February, replacing Bill Daughtridge, who moved to the Industrial Commission.

Johnston had been deputy secretary for service operations, where she oversaw the motor fleet, surplus property, mail service center, state parking and purchasing and contracts divisions. She had been city manager in a Florida municipality and was budget director for the city of Wilmington.

She is a native of North Carolina and earned a bachelor’s degree from UNC-Greensboro, where she majored in economics and political science. She has a master’s degree in public administration from N.C. State University.
