FreedomWorks PAC has endorsed Republican U.S. Rep. George Holding over incumbent U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers in the 2nd Congressional District GOP primary.
FreedomWorks is a conservative political advocacy group that helped promote the tea party.
Ellmers, who is seeking a fourth term, won her seat in 2010 as a tea party favorite. She has fallen out of favor with some conservative groups who claim she follows House Republican leaders too often.
“Far too many Republicans go to Washington pledging to shake up the status quo, only to become part of it,” FreedomWorks PAC Chairman Adam Brandon said in a statement. “There is no greater example of that than Renee Ellmers, who has been a constant disappointment to conservatives. We hope that conservatives in the district will rally around George Holding’s campaign and send a message to the Washington political establishment.”
