The News & Observer’s partners at PolitiFact North Carolina are college basketball fans and were intrigued recently when a political advocacy group compared its cause to the sport.
“In North Carolina, paid family leave is more popular than college basketball,” the group MomsRising said on Wednesday.
It’s true that college basketball has seen a decline in popularity in recent years, due to a number of factors.
But is paid family leave – the idea that workers should be paid even when they have to miss work for childbirth or a family illness, for example – really more popular than the sport that is almost like a religion to many in the Tar Heel state?
