Crash of car, school van at Raleigh intersection critically injures woman, 83

A school transportation vehicle collided with a car on Lynn Road Tuesday afternoon, and an 83-year-old woman who was a passenger in the car was critically hurt, police said

No children were seriously injured, Raleigh police said.

The accident happened about 3:10 p.m. at Lynn Road and Valley Drive in Raleigh. Lynn Road was closed temporarily at Creedmoor Road and at Lead Mine Road.

Police said Frances Oakley House, 83, of Springmoor Circle was taken to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh with life-threatening injuries.

She was reported to be in critical condition Wednesday.

Frances House was riding in a 2012 Hyundai driven by Billie Wooten House, 85.

The students were in a Ford van owned by Reese Transit Inc., police said.

An accident report said the van was going north on Valley Drive and House’s car was going west on Lynn Road when they collided in the intersection.

Both vehicles wound up off the side of Lynn Road.
