Police say man who fled officers hit on Capital Boulevard

Police say a man was fleeing from officers when he ran into traffic on Capital Boulevard and was hit by a car early Friday afternoon.

Kendale Gerod Hill of Daneborg Road in Durham was taken to WakeMed for treatment of injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, according to police. The incident prompted police to close the northbound lanes of Capital Boulevard for more than an hour.

Police say they were called to the Americas Best Value Inn motel at 3412 Capital Blvd. shortly after noon to answer a complaint about a man who reportedly punched out a car window. Hill resembled the man described to police, and as officers approached him, he fled on foot, police say.

Hill, 28, crossed four lanes of southbound Capital Boulevard and three of the northbound lanes before he was hit by a Nissan that was going 45 mph, according to a police report.
