The state Department of Transportation hopes to ease traffic around Smithfield-Selma High and Neuse Charter schools by extending a short dead-end street and connecting it with Buffalo Road.
NCDOT has awarded a $2.6 million contract to build a half-mile extension of Kellie Drive to a new intersection with a traffic signal at Buffalo Road. The new two-lane road will include sidewalks on both sides.
The new connection will give students, staff and parents of Smithfield-Selma High and Neuse Charter schools another way to go between Buffalo and East Booker Dairy Road.
Barnhill Contracting Co. can begin work on Kellie Drive as soon as April 2 and is expected to be finished by spring 2019.
