Wake Forest woman killed in crash on NC 98 in northern Wake

A Wake Forest woman was killed Wednesday morning when a dump truck overturned in front of her car when the truck driver swerved to avoid another car on N.C. 98 in northern Wake County.

Lisa Ortuno, 46, of Federal House Avenue was traveling westbound on N.C. 98 near Stony Hill Road shortly after 8 a.m. when a Nissan car in front of her traveled left of center and struck a Mac dump truck in the oncoming lane, according to the State Highway Patrol. The driver of the truck, Alfredo Carbajal, 55, of Durham, lost control, crossed the center line and overturned, hitting Ortuno’s Volkswagen.

Ortuno died at the scene of the crash. Carbajal and the driver of the Nissan, Cheznee Johnson, 37, of Incline Drive in Wake Forest, were treated for minor injuries and released.

N.C. 98 was closed until early afternoon as authorities investigated the accident and cleared the wreckage. Investigators are conferring with the Wake County District Attorney’s Office about possible charges, according to the Highway Patrol.
