Five men were injured when a small truck collided with a van on Interstate 540 near Lumley Road on Friday morning, according to Raleigh police.
Police say the accident took place about 7:30 a.m. when an Isuzu box truck going west on I-540 merged into an adjoining lane, hitting a Chevy Express van, causing both vehicles to lose control. The van flipped and crossed the center guard wire into the eastbound lanes of I-540, while the box truck flipped and came to rest against the guard wire.
The driver of the truck, Ryan Timberlake, 31, of Knightdale, and the driver of the van, Eugeino Garcia Navarro, also of Knightdale, were taken to Duke Hospital in Durham, according to a police report. Three men who were riding in the van were also hospitalized. None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
Charges against Timberlake are pending, according to the police report.
The accident closed the left two lanes on each side of the eight-lane highway.
