A Raleigh man was killed Monday morning when his work van slid off an exit ramp from Interstate 40 and hit a tree.
Norman Arnold Kelly, 37, of Melbourne Road was exiting westbound I-40 onto Wade Avenue shortly before 7 a.m. when he went off the ramp to the right, then overcorrected and slid off the road to the left, according to a police report. Police estimate that Kelly was going 55 mph when he hit the tree.
Kelly, who was driving a van for Enhanced Heating and Cooling, was alone in the van. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The exit ramp was closed for several hours as police cleared the wreckage and investigated the accident.
