Wake school buses crash near Wendell, two drivers hurt

Two Wake County school bus drivers were taken to a hospital Wednesday morning after their vehicles crashed while one was carrying students to East Wake High School, officials said.

Three students’ parents took them for medical exams, school system spokeswoman Lisa Luten said. One of the driver’s daughters was with her mother on the bus and went to the hospital with her, but it was not clear if she needed medical help, Luten said.

The crash happened at Wendell Boulevard and Liles Dean Road near Carver Elementary School at about 6:45 a.m.

Authorities closed Wendell Boulevard at N.C. 97 for a time.

Officials were directing parents who arrived at the scene to go to East Wake High School to meet uninjured students.

School system wreckers towed both buses from the scene.
