Two people, including a 13-year-old girl, were killed and six more, including four children, were seriously injured Monday evening when a truck collided head-on with a van east of Wake Forest.
Charges are pending against the truck driver, Jessie Sanders Jr., 43, of Wendell, according to Patty McQuillan, a spokeswoman with the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
The accident happened shortly after 6 p.m. on N.C. 98, about a mile and a half north of Rolesville. State troopers said Sanders was driving an International truck that crossed the center line and collided with a Hyundai van driven by Renee Lynn Stokes, 33, of Wilson.
Emergency workers rushed Stokes to WakeMed in Raleigh, where she died. A passenger in the van, Angelina Rebollar, 13, of Louisburg, died at the scene, McQuillan said.
Emergency workers transported five other passengers from the van to WakeMed. They are Debra Desha, 61, of Louisburg and Crystal Rebollar, 10, Isaac Stokes, 10, Elijah Stokes, 5, and Seth Stokes, 3 months old.
Sanders was also transported to WakeMed, McQuillan said.
